Leaving Canada for Good

Leaving Canada

Although I have quite literally been telling everyone we know that we were moving to El Salvador for over a year now, it has actually happened and it seems surreal! On August 20th we shook off our Canadian soil from our shoes and boarded the plane to El Salvador. Actually hubby quite literally threw away his sandals at the Montreal airport LOL, he wanted to bring his steal toed work boots with him to El Salvador so what better way to pack them than wearing them on the plane. So he threw away his broken Sandals and wore the boots on the plane.

Our friends were so generous and drove us to the airport in two vehicles. One friend drove his car and took 3 kids, two cats and 3 back packs and our other friend in the van took GJ and I, one cat, 10 suitcases, 2 carry ons and 2 back packs. Let’s just say that we arrived with a ton of stuff or at least 500 lbs in the 10 suitcases plus the rest.

So travelling in general can be quite stressful, add in 3 kids, 3 cats and the fact that this isn’t a vacation and you will NOT return to your home but you are moving on top of all of that. I can honestly say that I have never been under that much stress in my entire life. Since all of this we have decided that hubby will be going back, as our property hasn’t sold yet anyway and he will make a decision on what else we’d like to take or even need to take with us because I really feel like we fled the country like fugitives and we left stuff behind that we wanted to bring with us. I made a video to explain the whole process of us getting ready to leave and trigger warning, you might get stressed out just watching it .

How to leave your home country and move to El Salvador

Some people may wonder about the decisions we made for leaving Canada. More of the “Why would you leave Canada?” and “What are you going to do now that you are in a whole new country” is in this next video. It explains more about our reasoning for this huge change in ours and our children’s lives, spoiler alert, it is for the better!
