So today my son Laurens is supposed to have dental surgery at the hospital. Of course they told us that he needed to fast after midnight last night. So as soon as I woke up today I saw him down on the sofa eating those sour cream rings. I admit a freaked out a little!
Anyway we get ready and head to the hospital since we were scheduled to be here at 7:45. So after some consultation with us they said they are willing to push our 9:30 surgery to the latest time slot in hopes that they can get other patients to come in earlier so they don’t run out of time to do it today. The alternative is to go home and come back another day. My feeling is that we risk the same thing happening on another day. In my mind it looks like “Ground Hog Day”, every time we plan for surgery he wakes up before me and eats something.
CHEO, surgery and mommy’s lack of coffee
So we are pushing through and trying not to have any melt downs. Good thing I brought the tablet charger! CHEO is great accept I cannot eat in the waiting room either, not even drink my coffee which I find the most trying. I only had about 4 hours sleep so this could get interesting!
They say this thing happens everyday. Kids even find food in the car to chow down on the way to surgery. Glad to know we are not in that boat alone. The problem with having food in the tummy and then having surgery is the potential for aspiration and my cousin has already lived that nightmare for me so we’ll just keep waiting and hoping the schedule works out.
What is the surgery for?
Some of his teeth will be pulled, some filled and he’ll have some x-rays so we’ll know a bit better when his adult teeth will come in. The surgery takes about 2 hours with 2 more for recovery and monitoring. I am not sure what time is the latest surgery but it will be a very long day and mommy might need a nap, and someone else to make dinner probably!
Wish us luck and keep us in your prayers!
