Not much happened this weekend in the garden with all of the rain. I am waiting for my husband to build 7 more planter boxes. I counted how many plants I have left to plant and I have 107. Not sure how that is going to work, I was only putting 9 plants in each 4′ x 8′ box. I’ll have to rethink that. I don’t think that all of my plants will need that much space so maybe I can get 12 in some, I did 12 for the tomatoes. Even then I will need more that 8 boxes. Perhaps I’ll put some plants in other spots of the yard.
I planted my squash and pumpkins but I was thinking that I had more pumpkin plants than that and I was right. I found a few more after I was done. So I may dig them up and move them all to the same box. I may not however because I was going to run the pumpkin patch onto the cement walkway between the boxes so that they had a bit more space. I only planted the pumpkins near the edge of the box, not the centre. Last year I grew one pumpkin plant and it made one pumpkin, about 8″ wide, that was it. Hopefully I’ll have a bit more success this time.
Lets hope I have the energy after work tomorrow to get more planted, assuming my husband gets more boxes made.
The first year of the garden is the most expensive. I calculated that just the soil for each box was $35. Then there is the wood and screws and plants. I think I spent about $200 on plants. I’ll have to add up the receipts.
I’ll try to get pictures tomorrow of what we got ready so far.
