In this Trash to Treasure post my husband shows how to fix the bottom of a broken dresser drawer and then I paint the dresser and turn it into craft storage and it turned out great.
Where did I get this idea?
We own a rental property, correction, owned, we just sold it. We had it furnished so we had to remove all of the items by the middle of March. So my husband came home with side tables, a dining room table and two dressers. We were able to sell and donate a bunch more items. But this dresser spoke to me so I decided to keep it and refinish it.
So the first thing that we had to do was fix the bottom drawer, the bottom had fallen out, the guide was off of the drawer so it wouldn’t follow the track. In the video my husband shows step by step what we needed to do to fix that issue with glue, staples, Stanley Stapler, and more screws.
Where to start?
So the next step was cleaning everything down well and I just used diluted Pine Sol and a rag. Then I got to painting it. I have been using Fusion Chalk Paint for a while now and it is great because it has a built in top coat so it is a one step paint. This colour is Picket Fence. The only drawback is that you cannot wet sand or wet distress it. That just means that I need to get out my sandpaper and go to town. So no biggy!
After I finished painting it two coats it was ready for some crafty touches. First I lined all of the drawers with drawer liner, then I decorated the top with a buffalo check table runner and a Spring basket that I made in this video and then later some apothecary jars that I had, along with other decor items I had around the house. Those two little signs I later used in my Spring wreaths that I made in this video.
How to finish?
But then the real fun began when I started to fill the drawers with all of my craft supplies that I use with my Cricut, which I just got this month also. I have an unboxing video if you want to see what I got in my bundle.
I really enjoyed making this project. It took a few days with the painting and fixing, but I got it done, packed with craft supplies and decorated to fit right in with my farmhouse main floor decorations. Try this on an old forgotten piece of furniture that you have and give it a new purpose, dressers aren’t just for the bedroom you know!
