Flowers Galore

I went out to Canadian Tire the other day after work and I was looking for a heating mat to put under my seedling trays.  They didn’t have the mats to sell separately but they had them in  Jiffy kits for $35.   So I got two of them.

I quickly put the mats under my already sewn seed trays (the mat was small so half of one seed tray and half of another one was on it and I just move them around each day) and then I worked on the new trays the next day.  A lot of humidity formed with the use of the heating mats.  So much so it was dripping outside of the humidomes!

So I left them like that and I planted my flower seeds and my 4-6 week veggies in the Jiffy trays and placed them in front of the gas fireplace, it is always warmer there.  Most of the veggies were brassicas.

I have heard from my co-workers that their tulips are coming up, all I saw on my tulip beds today was the bit of snow that we got yesterday.  Lets hope that is the last of the winter!!  I can’t wait to see the tulips and lilies come out of the ground and be “reborn” what an experience.

I have bing plans for the back yard this year too.  Most revolve around making the yard a bit less to mow.  I have no idea what the previous owners did but triangles that are made in the lawn by the fence in the back are lower down then the lawn, so the tractor dips down when you go into them and they are rutty.  Also they must have had a row a trees in the back they didn’t need/like and they cut them down but left the stumps in just low enough to not see when the grass needs mowed but just high enough that the tractor gets stuck on them when you hit them.  So I am going to turn every triangle into a triangular flower bed with all perennial flowers.  So I am looking forward to that.  I will probably get my husband to make a row of 4 x 4s to border it off.  That way I don’t have to take the hand mower to it every so often.

We also have plans for the fire pit renewal and patio area for the back yard but we are going to evaluate the septic system first.

Come on Spring, you can do it, shoo winter away!!!
