I love the feeling of warm dirt on my hands

Today was such a gorgeous day, high 20s.  I was outside clearing out my raised beds.  Three of them were overrun with grass.  When we made them last year we cut out the grass around were the wood would go but left the grass underneath and covered it with dirt.  I didn’t have very much trouble where the veggies were growing, I kept it weeded pretty good, except the watermelon patch, I was lax in keeping that one cleared out as the watermelons weren’t even in it, they were all outside the frame.  So today was back breaking labour to rake out all of the grass by the roots as well as other weeds.

So as far as the garden goes, I planted the garlic last year and most of them have come up and they are about 6″-8″ long.  I planted the strawberries last weekend in two patches, they are too close together right now and I will have to move them eventually to a larger bed but GJ still has to make that one. And I planted my pole beans, peas (3 variety) and yellow wax beans today.

Our local nursery had an open house today and I bought two red flowered creeping vine plants, can’t remember the name off hand but I will look it up and take pictures later.  I put them in small square pots inside the urns, the same ones I had on each side of the motel front door at Christmas time, and I bought square trellis to put in them to have the plants climb on.

As I write this it is already Sunday and I got up a little while ago to finish my Saturday blog.  So today is also gorgeous and I can’t wait to get out there and garden.
